Adults

On the first morning, adult students are given a diagnostic test and an oral assessment to ascertain their English language level and individual needs. This is followed by an introductory talk about the course, school, and the city to help familiarise learners with their new environment. This information is also contained in the student guidelines and CELT welcome pack, along with a map of the city and important contact details. Students are then placed into classes to start either that afternoon or the following morning, depending on the programme of study.

On the first morning, young learners are taken to the school by their homestay providers (if applicable). Young learners are then given a diagnostic test to ascertain their English language level to be placed into the appropriate class.

To help familiarise students with their new environment, the test is followed by an introductory talk about the course, school, and the city. Young learners are led through the CELT welcome pack which includes the course timetable, social programme (if applicable), student guidelines, a map of Cardiff, and a student ID card displaying the contact details for their homestay, the school, our Accommodation and Welfare Officer, taxis, and emergency services.

Finally, young learners are taken by a CELT teacher for a walking tour of Cardiff to discover the city centre and find the relevant bus stops to return to their homestay.
