Grace and Greg are the owners and directors of CELT – Centre for English Language Teaching, and have been running the language school since 1989.

Our mission is..

  • To offer the best possible English language programmes with friendly and qualified teachers in a positive, learner-centred environment
  • To look after our students within a caring and supportive setting, giving them the best experience in every aspect of their time with us in Cardiff and online.
  • To encourage our students to learn, do well, and inspire others.

No, we are not associated with any other school either in Cardiff or elsewhere. Although certain schools may have a similar name to ours, CELT is a privately-owned independent school and the longest established private language school in the city (founded in 1989). We have two teaching centres in the city; our Adult Centre at 6-8 Salisbury Road and our Young Learners Centre at 20-22 North Road.

Cardiff is approx. 150 miles from London taking the most direct route, the M4 motorway. The journey takes about 2 hours by train from Paddington Station and 3.5 hours by coach from Victoria Station.

The nearest airport to Cardiff is Cardiff Wales Airport (CWL). It takes approx. 35 minutes to get from the airport to the centre of Cardif by taxi (depending on traffic) and 45 minutes by train.

Bristol Airport is also relatively close to Cardiff with coaches taking 1 hour and 30 minutes to go from Bristol Airport to the city centre in Cardiff. The easiest way to get from Bristol Airport to the centre of Cardiff is to take a coach with Flixbus

You can start on any Monday (except holidays) as long as we have availability!

At anytime. Teachers at CELT constantly monitor their students and will move a student to another level when the student is ready. This is decided by a student’s ability and application. Also, all returning students re-take the diagnostic test at the beginning of each term providing an opportunity to demonstrate what was learned in the previous term

For our General English morning classes, you will need a coursebook which you can purchase or borrow from reception. For all other classes, your teacher will bring the materials you need.

Yes. If you wish to change to another course with the same price structure, your enrolment will be automatically transferred. If your new course has a different price structure, you can spread use your previous payment to cover that cost but please note that no refunds can be given. If your new course has a higher price than the original, you will only need to pay the difference.

All over the world. Mostly from the Middle East, Brazil, Italy, Spain and the Czech Republic. We ask that hosts have only one speaker of any particular language in their home at any one time (unless otherwise requested) and no more than 4 students present.

At CELT, we are proud of our track-record in helping our students reach their individual aims. The vast majority of our students achieve their IELTS targets and progress to the next step in their education or career.

No, everybody pays the same in our school. We believe that everyone should be treated equally and that it is unfair for people from one country to pay more than people from a different country for the same course. We are a private school and do not receive any financial help from our local or national government.

It depends where you are from. Different countries have different visa requirements, so for up-to-date information please visit this page on the UK government website: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

If you are from any country within the EU (European Union), EEA (European Economic Area) or Switzerland, you do not need a visa to study n the UK for up to six months. If you want to study English for a longer period you will have to apply for an 11-month “Short Term Study Visa”.
