Our criteria for recruiting suitable teachers are as follows:
- A degree in any discipline
- An absolute minimum of the Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert. TESOL
- Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Licentiate Diploma in TESOL or PGCE (TEFL) or MA in TEFL/TESOL (with observed teaching practice)
- At least 2-3 years’ teaching experience which should include some experience abroad.
In line with British Council accreditation guidelines, we do not accept teachers who have completed a weekend TEFL course or online qualifications, as these do not meet Level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
CELT is committed to safer recruitment practices for all staff who may have unsupervised contact with under 18s. It is delivered at every point of the recruitment process – from the stage of advertising a job vacancy, in the invitation to interview letter, during the interview itself and throughout our suitability checks.
You will therefore be asked to provide a copy of your qualifications, a CV (and if necessary an explanation of any career gaps) and contact details for at least two referees. Successful applicants are then required to undergo an Enhanced DBS police check. Please see the Safer Recruitment section of our Safeguarding Policy for further details.
