Facts about National Parks in Cymru/Wales
- 3 of Britain’s 15 National Parks are in Wales; Eryri/Snowdonia, Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast
- Over 20% of land in Wales is made up of these 3 National Parks
- In total, 12 million visitors visit Welsh National Parks each year
- Although Pembroke Coast is on of the smallest UK National Parks, it covers almost all of the coastline in Pembrokeshire
- You can get married in ‘The Cathedral Cave’ in Brecon
- Eryri (Snowdonia) is home to the highest mountain in Wales & England, called ‘Y Wyddfa’ (3,560 ft!)
- According to The Environment Act 1995, the role of a national park in Wales is:
“To conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Parks and promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the National Parks by the public.”
