Since the start of 2021, CELT has been working with the Cameroon Bilingual Letters Teachers’ Association (CABITA) on the Partnered Remote Language Improvement project (PRELIM) to deliver an online English language improvement programme designed to upskill CABITA’s members.
Designing a course to meet the needs of teachers in Cameroon and delivering that course online, whilst negotiating connectivity issues, has proved to be an exciting challenge! During the course, we have covered various pedagogical aspects in ESL such as Concept Checking Questions (CCQs), Instruction Checking Questions (ICQs), how to start lessons, and ways of presenting new language. As a culmination to the course, our participants are giving presentations on a lesson they are going to teach in the near future, the new techniques they plan to utilise in that lesson, and the English language necessary to guide their learners through each stage of the class.
We would like to thank all the people and organisations that have made this project possible; our partners CABITA, the British Council, IATEFL, Martyn Clarke from NILE who has done a wonderful job of guiding the entire project though to the end, and most of all the teachers in Cameroon whose dedication and enthusiasm have made this experience an absolute pleasure.
